Abstract

We have read the case presented by González Cruz et al., which describes the clinical presentation of the food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), as well as its diagnosis and treatment. We were surprised because the authors describe the patch test as a method of diagnostic corroboration of that disease. The most recent international guideline was unable to make any recommendation regarding its use due to conflicting results obtained in clinical studies. In the Spanish consensus among primary care pediatricians, pediatric gastroenterologists and pediatric allergists, patch testing is not recommended for the diagnostic confirmation of FPIES induced by cow's milk protein, the most common trigger for this entity.
