In September 2017, the Colombian Association of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI) and the World Allergy Organization (WAO) jointly held two unique events in Cartagena, Colombia: the 11th Colombian Congress of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the WAO Symposium "Mite Allergy: From Basic Science to Clinical Applications." The organizers made every effort to offer a program with innovative and interesting content, as well as to achieve a large and high-quality call for papers that would encourage the submission of open papers. To this end, an ambitious effort was undertaken to secure publication of the abstracts in a high-impact journal for the specialty, reaching an agreement with the Revista de Alergia de México, a leader in the areas of allergology and immunology in the region and the official publication of the Latin American Society of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (SLAAI).
