Kawasaki Disease Cytokine Release Syndrome and Kawasaki Disease Shock Syndrome affecting a male teenager: Case Report.

Abstract

Background: Kawasaki Disease Cytokine Release Syndrome and Kawasaki Disease Shock Syndrome are poorly identified complications of Kawasaki Disease. However, the coexistence of both situations is rare, since its scientific support is limited to few case reports.

Case report:

Male teenager with a 7-day history of fever and general malaise, who arrives to the ED with distributive shock, bicytopenia, and splenomegaly. Dengue was ruled out and Kawasaki disease was integrated, responding to human gamma globulin and oral steroid.

Conclusion: Although Kawasaki Disease Shock Syndrome and Cytokine Release Syndrome arise from a hyperinflammatory state, their convergence has rarely been reported in the literature.

This is considered Latin America’s first case report, which was also successful in surviving.
